Marine heart beats in İstanbul
The International Sea Culture Festival, organized by the Sea Culture Association will be organized for the third time this year with the support of Ministry of Transport and Undersecretariat of Maritime Affairs. It will take place on 22nd to 26th September 2010. Istanbul will witness the Third International Sea Culture Festival which will start on 22nd September in İzmir and will be realized by Sea Culture Association under the patronage of Ministry of Transport and Undersecretariat of Maritime Affairs. The festival will end on 26th September and Mr. Binali Yıldırım, the Minister of Transport, and the legendary team of Captain Jacque Cousteau, will also attend to the organization. A series of activities will be organized in Istanbul both above water and under underwater. The live underwater TV broadcast that Binali Yıldırım, the Minister of Transport, will attend will include Mithat Bereket, prominent journalist and documentary producer, as well as an oil painting workshop to be organized underwater are just a few examples. The festival will be opened on 22nd September with the ceremony to be held in front of Çaka Bey Monument in İzmir, followed by the departure of the hurricane lantern to Istanbul. And the Istanbul
activities will start when the hurricane lantern is welcomed by State Minister of Transportation Mr. Binali Yıldırım and the Captain Cousteau team in Istanbul. The
International Sea Culture Festival
intends to combine all the maritime dimensions of the Turkish economy, technology, tourism, security, history and art with the concept of “Sea Culture” and the role of Istanbul as the traditional Turkish maritime capital. The festival also intends to raise the awareness and the love of the sea in Turkish people and introduce our maritime traditions to the rest of the world. The Festival will also create a different platform where the state ministries relating to culture and the maritime, media and press organizations, local governments and NGO's and intellectuals and artists will meet. During the festival, a series of activities will be performed, including introducing the sea and its culture to children who have not yet seen it. Music Concerts will be performed on surface platforms and paddle and canoe races will also take place. State Minister Binali Yıldırım will make a statement relating to the International Sea Culture Festival that it is very important that such an organization is undertaken with the leadership of an NGO. “Actually, the nature of our marine business, the cultural dimension and the artistic aspects of it necessitates this.
Meeting with the universal sea culture...
Hakkı şen, the organizer of the festival and the President of Sea Culture Association, on the other hand, pointed out the importance of enabling Turkey meet with the entire universal sea culture of the world during his statement. ”We are now taking our şrst steps to enable the sea culture of Anatolia, surrounded by the coastal waters in three directions, meet with the universal sea culture of the world. We have taken important steps with the şrst and second International Sea Culture Festival. And now, we are on the verge of the Third International Sea Culture Festival. Making Turkey a part of the world and opening Turkey to the world means loving Turkey. The International Sea Culture Festival will play its role in raising Turkey to the status of a maritime country and the Turks to the status of a maritime nation.
